Architectural painting is a form of genre painting where the predominant focus lies on architecture, both outdoor views and interiors. Brian Powell was born and grew up in Montpelier, graduating from Montpelier High School in 1969. He went to Yale College and got his graduate degree in Historic Preservation from Boston University. He worked for many years studying old buildings at Historic New England (yesterday’s SPNEA) and later for Building Conservation Associate’s New England office. He is now retired. His projects include the Old North and Old South Churches of Boston, the US Treasury Department in Washington, the Park Avenue Armory in New York, and the State Houses of New York, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. He will be speaking on the techniques of architectural paint research.
