Life Enrichment Coordinator (Memory Care)
Shifts Available: Part time alternating Tuesdays & Fridays and Saturdays & Sundays 9:00am – 5:30pm
The Life Enrichment Coordinator will plan, implement, and oversee the dementia activities program in Clara’s Garden (Memory Care) which provides life-enriching activities for residents in accordance with facility guidelines. A qualified candidate will be excited to collaborate with fellow staff and the community to ensure that activities meet facility standards and are dementia appropriate.
Responsibilities:
- Plans, implements, and oversees the daily dementia activities program.
- Ensures that a balanced, meaningful, ongoing program of opportunities is provided for residents.
- Ensures that daily activities are designed to meet the varied levels of resident cognitive functioning and physical abilities.
- Lead group activities and engage in one-to-one activities with residents as appropriate.
- Maintains and creates appropriate activity stations/areas to ensure that residents have access to quality activity opportunities.
- Invite and/or remind residents to participate in planned activities.
- Promote activities in a way that piques residents’ interest.
- Train, support, and instruct other staff members to conduct activities.
- Complete the activity assessment for each resident within one week after move-in and update annually.
- Provide input for the resident assistance plan.
- Plan, coordinate, and help implement decoration of the facility for special events, seasons, and holidays.
- Identify and requisition needed supplies for planned activities.
- Coordinate with the kitchen for food needs for scheduled activities.
- Arrange transportation for activity outings and regularly scheduled group trips.
- Drive the company vehicle for resident activities and appointments.
- Assist in serving meals and bussing tables during and after mealtimes as needed.
- Recruit specific volunteers to meet facility needs.
- Train and supervise volunteers.
- Carry out a regular resident/community volunteer recognition program.
- Develop a monthly activity calendar.
- Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, facility operations and personnel.
- Carry out all other duties as assigned by supervisor to ensure the smooth operation of the program and to meet residents’ needs.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in recreational therapy or similar degree preferred.
- Experience in activity planning with older adults preferred.
- Experience and interest in working with older adults.
- Willingness to learn and complete on-the-job training and utilize The Best Friends™ approach to dementia care.
- Experience in volunteering.
- Evidence of creativity.
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Mature, pleasant, friendly, and cheerful personality.
- Communication skills that include careful listening, being sensitive to other people’s thoughts and feelings, giving thoughtful responses, and timely and accurate reporting to appropriate people.
- Clean adult abuse registry check, criminal record, and driving record (verified by Dept of Aging, VT Criminal Agency, and DMV, respectively), and willingness to drive company vehicle to transport residents
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Medication & Resident Services Assistant
Shifts Available part time, 3:00pm – 11:00pm (weekends required)
The Gary Residence is seeking Medication & Resident Services Assistants to provide care to our residents. This would entail administering routine medications and treatments to residents in accordance with facility policy and procedures, federal and state regulations. The ideal candidate for this position will exemplify The Best Friends™ approach to dementia care by utilizing the essential elements of friendship (respect, empathy, support, trust, and humor) to care for residents and adapt to their remaining strengths and abilities.
Responsibilities:
- Assist residents with activities of daily living, including: toileting, bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, hygiene, and mobility.
- Administers medications and observes for additional care needs or changes in residents’ usual behavior, condition, or functional abilities.
- Reports observations to the nurse in a timely manner.
- Regularly performs a medication cart audit.
- Document information pertaining to changes in residents’ functional status, personal needs, appointments, etc.
- Practices patience, compassion, and empathy in all interactions with residents.
- Focuses on residents’ abilities and provides social/emotional support and encourages the resident to be as independent as possible.
- Respond to resident emergencies; provide first-aid assistance and arrange for appropriate medical attention under the instruction of the nurse.
- Assist in care of Hospice Program.
Qualifications:
- Must exemplify attention to detail in all aspects of the role.
- Experience interacting with elderly with memory care needs.
- Willingness to learn and complete on-the-job training and utilize The Best Friends™ approach to dementia care.
- A strong sense of compassion and a desire and commitment to teamwork and effective communication.
- Experience with med-passes.
- Preference given to LNA’s with experience, however, we are willing to train the right candidate.

The Gary Residence is seeking a full-time Chef/Cook for our Dining Services Department. The individual selected for this position will cook/prepare meals for 30+/- residents. Meals are cooked from scratch using local Vermont products. Candidate must maintain the cleanliness and preparedness of the kitchen, will utilize the dishwasher, and will perform cleaning assignments.
Responsibilities:
- Set up and serve meals to residents.

- Support other cooks with prep.
Qualifications:
- Commercial cooking experience preferred or domestic cooking experience with large groups.

- ServSafe Certificate required.

Resident Care Director Assistant (LPN)

The Gary Residence in Montpelier, VT is seeking a Resident Care Director Assistant (LPN) to provide care to our residents. The LPN is responsible for supporting the RN. The preferred candidate will be eager to support our mission to provide a high-quality residential setting for senior individuals which promotes independence, individuality, choice and security while supporting and enhancing the quality of life for the population it serves.
Responsibilities:
- Support the RN at The Gary Residence.
- Provide medical input for residents, families, and staff.
- Assist in the development and update of each resident’s care plan by assessing residents’ functional status on an ongoing basis.
- Document information pertaining to changes in resident’ functional status, personal needs, appointments, etc.
- Assure that assistance plans are completed and arrange services and support to meet resident needs.
- Keep Executive Director aware of problems, concerns and updates of each resident and enlist her assistance as needed.
- Review all emergency calls for assistance by residents and complete a quality-action review on the treatment and handling of each emergency by staff.
- Carry out other duties as assigned by supervisor or as necessary to maintain quality and continuity of services and safety of residents.
Qualifications:
- Active LPN Vermont State license.
- Two to five years’ experience providing resident care to the elderly, or similarly related experience with specialized memory care programs.
- One year experience with resident assessment and care planning.
- Understand and conceptualize complex concepts, as well as ability to make appropriate decisions in stressful situations.
- High level communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to show sincere compassion towards cognitively impaired older adults.
- Demonstrates genuine concern for the physical and emotional needs of the elderly and their families.
- Must be proficient in basic office equipment, including a personal computer, for the purpose of accomplishing and maintaining a high level of job performance.
- Must pass appropriate background checks and be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
